The Story

Meet the maker

My name is Anna

Hi, I’m the maker behind The Poppy Seed. What started over a decade ago as a quiet, hands-on hobby quickly grew into a space where creativity, tradition, and mindful living naturally came together. Crafting soaps and candles became my way of slowing down — shaping simple ingredients into something beautiful, useful, and gently nourishing.

The name The Poppy Seed is rooted in my Hungarian heritage, where poppy seeds appear in many beloved dishes and carry a sense of comfort, care, and everyday magic. That tiny symbol felt like the perfect way to honour where I come from and what I hope my products bring to others: small moments of warmth woven into daily rituals.

After a long break from my craft, I relaunched The Poppy Seed with renewed clarity and intention. Today, I create each batch by hand in small volumes, using natural ingredients, thoughtful formulas, and designs inspired by the textures, scents, and quiet beauty of slow living.

My goal is simple — to offer soaps and candles that feel grounding, inviting, and lovingly made, so your everyday routines become moments you can truly savour.

The Spark of Inspiration

It all started with the soaps

The Poppy Seed began with a passion for arts and crafts, but it was also sparked by a growing frustration with the environmental impact of single-use plastic. For years, I enjoyed creating things with my hands, but I wanted to take that creativity further. I wanted to make something not only beautiful and useful but also something that could help reduce waste in a meaningful way.

The idea really took root during Christmas — a time when waste from packaging, gifts, and disposable products is overwhelming. I decided to challenge myself to create something thoughtful, practical, and waste-free for my loved ones so I began making hand-crafted soaps as holiday gifts.

The first batches of soap were inspired by the festive spirit, and they were mini Christmas cakes (kuglóf) and cakes that looked almost good enough to eat! The reactions from my family were incredible — everyone was amazed by how detailed and unique the designs were. That’s when I realized: soap-making wasn’t just a fun hobby — it was an opportunity to create something that combined artistry with sustainability.

A touch of magic

The name "The Poppy Seed" is inspired by my Hungarian heritage, where poppy seeds are a beloved and meaningful ingredient in kitchens. Poppy seeds are used in everything from pastries to savory dishes, symbolizing nourishment, tradition, and even a touch of magic. This tiny seed, full of big meaning, is woven into the brand to honor my roots while offering products that are as natural and carefully crafted as the ingredients that inspired them. Just like the poppy seed makes everything a little more delightful, my soaps are here to add beauty and care to your daily routine.

From Craft to Consciousness

From Hobby to Mission
What started as a personal project to reduce waste during the holidays soon evolved into something much bigger. I realized I was not only making soap — I was creating a product that aligned with my core values of sustainability, beauty, and simplicity.

Every bar is crafted with care, using only natural ingredients, and I’m proud to offer products that are as beautiful as they are kind to the environment. The process is still deeply personal — each batch is made by hand, with intention and a love for detail.

Commitment to Ethical & Safe Practices
Sustainability goes beyond just using eco-friendly ingredients for me. It’s about making thoughtful decisions when selecting suppliers. I’m committed to working with eco-conscious, fair-trade, and slavery-free partners.

This ethical commitment is just as fundamental to The Poppy Seed as being plastic-free. Every aspect of my business is built around the idea that beauty and care should not come at the expense of the planet or its people.

Beside conscious production choices, safe practice is as important.

Therefore, all my soap recipes are lab tested and certified by Oxford Bio Sciences and I am committed to meticulously follow all related EU Cosmetic Regulations and Manufacturing Practices.

A Vision for a Plastic-, and Paraffin-Free Future
Today, my vision is clear: I want to transform bathrooms into plastic-free sanctuaries, one beautifully handcrafted soap and candle at a time. The Poppy Seed isn’t just about soaps or candles — it’s about inspiring mindful self-care routines that support sustainability, elevate everyday moments, and nurture both the body and the environment.
I want people to feel that the products they use daily can make a difference, because when we care for ourselves, we also care for the world around us.
